Innovation Pulse

    Organisational Conditions for Innovation

A practical route into the human and organisational conditions that shape whether innovation takes root. Use the RM3 lens to read patterns across Structure, Culture and Development, then consider how leadership can respond.

Pathway 02 · Organisational Conditions for Innovation

People working with organisational development, culture, change and innovation who want to understand the conditions beneath visible behaviour and outcomes.

    RM3: Structure, Culture and Development

This pathway is grounded in RM3, Red Matters 3-ology, Liv Cardell's framework for understanding organisational conditions. RM3 offers a distinct lens for reading the interaction of Structure, Culture and Development, including the human dynamics that can support or constrain change. It is one important perspective within KIN's wider system, not a substitute for the other Academy pillars.

    Curriculum in development

    Modules and intended outcomes

Each module connects a core idea to useful work in context. The curriculum and learner environment are being developed; these outlines describe the planned learning, not courses currently available to enrol in.

    01

Structure, Culture and Innovation with RM3

Meet the RM3 lens and examine how structural arrangements, cultural patterns and development interact around innovation. Consider how formal intent and lived experience can differ.

    Intended outcome

Use the RM3 dimensions to frame an organisational innovation challenge and identify a question for each dimension.

    02

    Reading Organisational Patterns

Practise looking beneath isolated incidents to recurring patterns in decisions, relationships and ways of working. Build interpretations from multiple observations instead of assuming a single cause.

    Intended outcome

Document a pattern with concrete examples, distinguish observations from interpretations and identify what additional perspective is needed.

    03

Culture as a Condition for Innovation

Explore how everyday norms, incentives and responses to uncertainty shape the space people have to contribute. Focus on what leaders and teams reinforce through action, not culture slogans.

    Intended outcome

Identify one cultural signal that helps or hinders innovation and propose a practical change in the conditions producing it.

    04

Leadership Across Blue, Red and Green

Consider the Blue, Red and Green leadership orientations within RM3 and how different emphases may be experienced in an organisation. Use the distinctions as prompts for reflection rather than fixed labels for people.

    Intended outcome

Describe which leadership emphasis is most visible in a specific situation and choose a complementary response suited to its needs.

The module sequence and learning environment are under development. ISO 56000 provides a standards backbone across all three Academy pathways; it is not certification of this pathway or its learners.

    Learning in context

Read the conditions around the work

The learning environment is being developed to help learners bring a real organisational situation, examine it through RM3 and compare perspectives. Practice will emphasise careful observation, contextual interpretation and small changes that can be revisited with evidence.

    Pathway questions

What does RM3 stand for, and who is it attributed to?

RM3 means Red Matters 3-ology and is Liv Cardell's framework. This pathway uses its lens on Structure, Culture and Development to explore organisational conditions for innovation.

Is RM3 the same as KIN Capability Architecture?

No. RM3 is Liv Cardell's framework for reading organisational conditions. KIN Capability Architecture, led by Deana, is a distinct model for connecting strategic intent to organisational capability. They address different questions and remain separate pillars.

Is the RM3 pathway currently running?

The modules and learning environment are being developed. The page describes the intended curriculum and learning outcomes, not a live course.

Does ISO 56000 certify RM3 or this pathway?

No. ISO 56000 is the cross-pathway standards backbone for shared innovation management language and principles. It does not certify RM3, the course or individual learners.
